Upcoming Release: Minis (4/11/22)

I’m so excited to release this collection of minis! I haven’t released any original artwork in about a year. My baby girl is about 9 months old so it feels really exciting to be back in the swing of things and have this project launch after working on it for quite some time.

Below is a preview of what will be available for purchase on Monday 4/11 at 12pm. Mostly canvas, but some paper pieces ranging between 3.5"x3.5” and 9x12”.

Custom framing is not available for this collection but I will share framing recommendations at the bottom of this post!

Inspiration

One of my favorite things to do when I visit an art museum is to get as close as I can to a painting and study the individual brush strokes. I love the story they tell and how unique they are to the artist. The images below are from a visit to the l’Orangerie in Paris to see Monet’s famous water lily panels. I haven’t been able to forget the unfinished portions of canvas and how so many of his brush strokes moved upwards even though the overall image is of a horizontal scene. I channeled this experience into my minis.

I like to think of them as a very small section of a much larger piece of art. Especially in a vintage frame they feel almost like a found piece of art to me. I tried to really lean into what brush strokes felt most innate to me and moved very intuitively while I mixed colors and painted. You’ll see some colors like blue, maroon, and pink that I don’t typically use in my larger paintings but felt fun to experiment with in a smaller scale.

Framing Suggestions

As I mentioned custom framing will not be offered for these, but I am happy to refer you to a few good ready to buy options.

But first, I recommend talking with a local framer, I’m always the most satisfied by my framed pieces when I visit my framer. I can’t tell you how many times custom framing has actually been more affordable than a pre-assembled frame. That being said I know not everyone has found a framer in their town so I will share the do it yourself version below :)
