Upcoming Release: Minis on Loose Canvas

I have been working on a large batch of minis to have available April 1st. Initially I was bummed to find out that the paper I use for my minis was backordered due to Covid & Brexit complications, but after deciding to pivot to loose canvas I have found a lot of enjoyment in working so small on a different substrate.

I paint on stretched canvas all the time, but it’s been about 4 years since I painted on loose canvas and that was on a much larger scale.

I shared on Instagram recently that creating these has been a very meditative process. I fell in love with art as a young girl because I could get lost in my head and spend hours sketching or painting. The process of these has taken me back to that place and I have so appreciated it. Though time consuming the process of measuring and cutting the canvas sizes has been one of my favorite parts. It’s even something that I can kind of involve my son in. No, he doesn’t do the cutting but he’s been a great supervisor ;)

The canvas texture has led me to paint with a more restrained hand. The practice of restraint is one I admire a lot in both art, design, & life. I have been able to get lost in these oil washes and let myself be surprised in the ways that the pigments settle once I step away.

I am painting a very large batch of these minis so I’ve let myself explore a good bit and you’ll see a mixed offering of these more restrained paintings, as well as more heavily textural paintings.

These have a release date slated for April 1st!

Sizes: 4x4”, 6x6”, 5x7”, 8x8”, & 9x12”

I hope you love them & are able to get lost in them the way I have been able to.

xo, Mel
