Upcoming Release: Figures at Rest

I like to share what has inspired my work when I can, but it can be hard to find the time with two small kiddos to sit down and intentionally reflect and share. However, I have been working with a wonderful consultant named Shelli from Beermann Art Advisory and she has not only pushed me to share but has helped me find the words.

My process varies, but I usually get excited about exploring something — that can be a color, an overall palette, a shape, or a feeling — I either have success in my exploration or I scrap it. Last spring I had a few larger unfinished abstracts that I had been holding in my studio for close to a year. When I hit a wall with something I’m working on I generally don’t like to force it. One day I was revisiting one of these larger abstracts and I imagined a figure sitting within. I tried it out and it just clicked for me. I released my first figures last spring and have been itching to re-explore how figures could play within my already established practice.

These paintings have felt more like molding little statues. Carving away until the form is revealed.

Below are some images that I referenced while painting. Soft moody tones, black and white photography, sculpture, and nature. I titled this series ‘Figures at Rest’, but I think you’ll find that the postures I’ve chosen still have a feeling of strength to them. They are not intended to feel sad, but portray a contented and thoughtful state of rest.

I am so proud of these paintings, and am excited to share more soon! Stay tuned on Instagram and sign up for my email list to have early shopping access.

Paintings will be available for purchase Tuesday, October 25th at 12pm EST.
