2020 Look Ahead

Happy New Year! Happy NEW DECADE!

Career wise, 2019 was an important year for me. I became a mom in the final days of 2018, and month my month pieced together what it would look like to be an artist and a care taker during my days. I somehow slowed down and did more than ever before at the same time.

I stepped into my own as an artist, found confidence in my work, my palette, technique, & point of view. It was a year of growth & joy that the Lord knew I needed. I’m so thankful for all the dreams that happened and all the dreams that have yet to happen. What a bless-ed thing it is to have dreams to look forward to.

As for 2020, I wanted to tell you all a bit of what you can expect to see from me within the next few months. No… I don’t have the whole year planned out, I have some ideas but in general I like to keep an open hand to what could happen within the rest of the year. So here is my quarterly look ahead :)

  1. Finish up & Release my Paris Series - January — March

  1. I have stacks of paintings taking over my studio! You can expect to see small to large canvases — some smaller works will come with frames. Small to medium paper pieces.

Perhaps unlike other artists you follow… I do not currently abide by a “release” date system. I don’t find it terribly conducive with my life as an artist/mother. Instead you can expect that they will be released on my website in smaller batches.

  2. Have work available locally in Lexington — January

More to come on this! I’ll announce on Instagram soon :)

  3. Workshop! — likely… February

I have a few women that have expressed interest in attending a workshop. If you are interested as well… please reach out! This workshop would be geared towards the hobbyist, someone interested in stretching themselves & trying something new, a fun get together with your friends.

It would not be focused on making art that looks like mine — this just goes agains everything I believe about creativity. It would be an exploratory workshop where we could find inspiration, learn a few techniques, and most importantly…. HAVE FUN.

Additionally — I’ve toyed with the ideal of a kiddo workshop for years, if you would be interested, let’s chat!

  4. Trip to Portugal! Likely Spain and surrounding countries - April

I plan to create a few works while I’m over there similarly as I did on my Paris trip, I’ve gotten such great feedback on releasing pages of my sketchbook so I will plan to do that again, as well as creating work inspired by the places we end up visiting after we return home.

We know we are going to meet up with Keith’s family in Southern Portugal, but haven’t planned the rest of the trip yet. If you have any tips I’d love to hear from you! I plan to create a few works while I’m over there similarly as I did on my Paris trip, I’ve gotten such great feedback on releasing pages of my sketchbook so I will plan to do that again, as well as creating work inspired by the places we end up visiting after we return home.

  5. Offer framing resources via my website

I’ve been working on this for a while… but I hope to have this integrated on my site ASAP!

    Additional Art Goals:

Here are some goals & dreams of mine that I am just going to toss out there! It makes me nervous… but here we go!

  • Submit to an out of state Exhibition

  • Become a part of an artist collective

  • Submit to an out of state gallery

  • Sell more original works than commissions

  • Spruce up my website/branding/packaging

  • Work with stylists

  • Work with more interior designers (love you guys)

  • Have work published online or in print

  • Enjoy the ride!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for following along… that fact that anyone has told me I’m their favorite artist within the last year has melted my brain and taken me to a humbled place where I just think Holy cow God! I’m living my dream! And people like it!!! And pay for it!!!

I can not tell you how special that is. I hope to continue to better my craft, deliver you artwork you love and are connected to. And serve & love my family and friends to the best of my ability.

I hope this New Year is good to you.

xo, Mel
